Hello earth.
Hello earth,
I’m off to Chicago on Tuesday for some Hush Sound shows, family, and friendly fun! I can’t wait to see my parents, Its a nice feeling, because when I was touring endlessly, I was too exhausted to miss anyone. Stability has made me sane and really opened my mind up creatively. Occasionally I miss being transient, borderline Omni-Present even, but for now I’ll remain on a short leash.
I spent most of this week tying up loose ends both scheduling-wise and material-wise for my upcoming album and editing some new stories. I’m still trying to figure out if I can get all the clothes I need into my guitar pedal case, or I’ll just have to do what my friend Drew does, pack nothing, buy white shirts at the first store you see. I just don’t have a place to put all those shirts.
Its funny how you think your making one album, and you chisel them into little statues for hours, days, and weeks, only to have two new songs materialize out of thin air. I’m not complaining, I enjoy the struggle, but either way I like a good song more. I have been writing a couple of those good songs with some friends too! I’m sure some of those will end up going on what I put out very soon.
When I wasn’t busy hammering away on my instruments, I was, and still am, finishing up the literature portion of two illustrated stories; Jill and Filbert and The Giraffe with the bird on his back, I’m not sure exactly when, but I’m bound to let these puppies out soon, and when they’re on the loose, I would keep your fingers in a fist. They have little mouths, but very sharp teeth, and are very hungry.
Jill and Filbert is being illustrated by my dear friend Mia Christopher, I met her a few years ago and have always had great admiration for her work. The story is about a “friendship” between Jill and Fil, in which they have to overcome some long standing views on etiquette to truly be friends. I don’t want to give it away, but I’m so happy to be collaborating with Mia on this story.
The Giraffe with the Bird On His Back is being illustrated by my dad, Sam Morris. There are a few bits of excellence that my father never bestowed upon me, one of them is painting, another is Handy Man Manly stuff, I do change my own oil though. My entire basement is covered in oil paintings and chalk drawings of everything from Trains to Clint Eastwood to Winter crossings, and now Giraffe’s, Birds, and Peaches. If you like to make things, Make them with everyone, especially your family.
Also, I’m really starting to embrace the name “Bob” for the first time. I’ve never realized how funny it is, Maybe I’ll call my album “Bob on Bob” as a nod to dylan or something. Ha.
